Struggling to get by on part-time incomes a Japanese couple top up with the fruits of "five-finger discounts". They are joined by the rest of their household, and then they take in a young local girl; and all is about to change ...

Thursday the 19th is our December night, last for the year. So take a break from Christmas shopping and enjoy some Japanese culture, a few nibbles and this month we will be revisiting some favourites from the year with "Tony's Selection" of wines.

November - It's Party Time

If it feels like this month's movie has come around quickly, it's because it has.

Where screening on the second Thursday this month, so that's next week - the 14th.

Our main feature is a relatively short film so we've added a classic British comedy "the Plank" to give us an almost double feature.

Our main offering will be "the Party". A soiree to celebrate a rising political career doesn't go quite to plan.

As usual drinks and nibbles will be available form 6:30, with the screening commencing at 7:00

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

The Teacher Has Important Lessons for Us All

Plenty of highlights to look forward to next Thursday (the 17th). After our pre-film food and wine we'll have the thrill a minute AGM! Don't miss it; and it's not too late if would like to nominate for a position on the committee, new members are very welcome.

Oh, and there will be a film.

This month we are off to Czechoslovakia for a Slovak tale of corruption and political influence in the former communist state. The year is 1983 and the wall, and all it stood for, is still up. A principle and parents have to decide whether they are brave enough to challenge a new teacher and her corrupt behaviour, in light of her high up connections.

This month you can prepare for the cut and thrust of the AGM with a glass of Parker Coonawarra Estate's fine product, and be fortified with the snacks provided by the RSL Ladies.

Look forward to seeing everyone there.

My apologies, I had a complete brain fade last night and sent out information about the wrong film.

Our offering this month is not Italian, it;s not a comedy and it's not about corruption. Apart from that I was right on the mark.

Our film this month is actually the Spanish family drama "Summer 1993". The story of 6 year-old Frida's struggle to settle into a new life, in a new place after her mother's death.

A highly regarded film and winner of multiple awards, this promises to be an entertaining night out.

On the plus side, I did get the date, times, food and wine right. So we;ll see you next Thursday (the 12th) at 6:30 for a 7:00 start, with Penley Estate wines and the
RSL Ladies' food to sustain us.

Wednesday, September 4, 2019

If previous Italian comedies are anything to go by we're in for a good laugh on Thursday the 12th, the second Thursday of the month..

The story of a Sicilian town, beset by dishonesty and corruption, turning to a politician to solve their woes. Optimism beats pragmatism  it seems.Of course not all goes to plan ...

This month we will be again fed by the RSL Ladies and enjoy the delights of Penley Estate's wines. As always food and wine form 6:30, screening at 7:00. Looking forward to seeing evryone there.

Thursday, August 8, 2019

This month, on Thursday the 15th, we will be in a somewhat different environment with the Franco-German collaboration "Things to Come". We will l join Nathalie a philosophy teacher struggling to reinvent her life when change is thrust upon her.

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women

Remember this month's movie is a week later than usual, so the 25th rather than the 18th.

Next week will be learning of the unorthodox lifestyle of the man who invented the lie detector and created Wonder Woman, and his wonder women. A tangle of relationships and controversy.

This month we will be enjoying Karatta wines and the food prepared for us by the RSL Ladies.

As usual doors open at 6:30, screening at 7:00. Look forward to seeing you.

A Canadian/Irish production reminding us that we shouldn't be judgemental, disabled doesn't mean incapable and adversity can be overcome.

Thursday June 20th we're back to the SIr Robert Helpmann Theatre for this month's film, "Maudie". Maud suffers from rheumatoid arthritis but isn't the untalented fool people think. Based on the true story of Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis "Maudie" is an inspiring story of gaining acceptance.

This month we will be enjoying Raidis wines and the food prepared for us by the RSL Ladies.

As usual doors open at 6:30, screening at 7:00. Look forward to seeing you.

First Love Italian Style

The third Thursday seems to be very early this month coming on the 16th, but it's still movie night!

This month we're off to 1980's Italy for a sensual tale of first love set in a 17th century villa.

This month's wine will be supplied by Whistle Post Wines and the RSL ladies will be ensuring we have some nibbles to enjoy before hand. Doors open at 6:30, screening a little after 7:00.

The Tide of History Sweeps Up Everyone

Mixed race relationships have always been somewhat fraught in the Southern States of the USA, but a relationship between a white woman and a Japanese man as war rages in Europe and tensions build in Asia is going to be especially challenging
As usual drinks and nibbles are available from 6;30, screening commencing around 7:00. Again finger food will be supplied by the RSL ladies, and hot choices will be available. This month our pre-film liquid refreshments will from Herbert's Vineyard.

Friday, March 15, 2019

This coming Thursday (the 21st) we'll be heading to Finland to share a refugee's experience on the far side of the world.

Reaching a haven doesn't necessarily mean the end of our troubles. Having made it to Helsinki from Syria, Khaled still has challenges to face; but not alone. This award winning Comedy/Drama from Finland explores cross-cultural friendships.
As usual drinks and nibbles are available from 6;30, screening commencing around 7:00. Again finger food will be supplied by the RSL ladies, while our pre-film liquid refreshments will from Balnaves of Coonawarra.

Friday, January 11, 2019

Our first offering for 2019 is the bio-pic about American poet Emily Dickinson. Tracing her life from her early days as a schoolgirl through to her later years as a reclusive, forgotten artist.

If you have renewed your membership from last year don't forget to keep your card , and bring it along with you, that way you can avoid the queue.

This month the wines are from the Blok Estate, well worth venturing out for! Nibbles will be provided by the RSL Ladies and Metro will be opening for coffee, cakes or something a little stronger after the show.

Looking forward to seeing you all there as we start what promises to be another great year of non-mainstream cinema.
