High Aspirations on The Mongolian Steppes

This month we venture to the steps of Mongolia to learn of the the quest by a 13-year-old, nomadic Mongolian girl to become the first female eagle hunter in twelve generations of her Kazakh family. Highly acclaimed, and controversially omitted from the Oscar nominatiosn (despite being consider a front-runner) this films aerial cinematography has been described as breathtaking.
Our screening is on Thursday 21st of June, drinks and nibbles from 6:30 with a 7:00 show time.
And this month we are assured that Metro will be open for coffee cakes (or something stronger) and of course good company.

A True Island Romance - Tanna (Thursday 17th May)

Set on a remote Pacific island, covered in rain forest and dominated by an active volcano, this heartfelt story, enacted by the Yakel tribe, tells of a sister's loyalty, a forbidden love affair and the pact between the old ways and the new.

Tanna was the first Australian movie to be nominated for an Oscar in the foreign language film category. A joint venture between Australia and Vanuatu this film has attracted world acclaim.

To accompany the RSL Ladies' finger food we will have a selection of DiGiorgio Family wines to enjoy.

IMPORTANT NEWS - Thanks to our immediate past Chairman, Rick Paltridge's representations Metro Bakery will be opening on our screening nights so we have somewhere to gather and compare notes on the evening's film, while enjoying a coffee and cake, or something a little stronger from the bar. It is marvellous that Rick has been so persuasive and I hope as many members as possible will show our appreciation of Rick's endeavours and support Toni and her wonderful team by heading over after the movie.

This November - The Wind Rises

We will be entering uncharted waters (or should I say skies) this month with our first animated feature.

From the acclaimed Studio Ghibli this is a fine example of the best of Japanese anime. Telling the story of  Jiro Horikoshi a myopic flying enthusiast who turned his hand to design when his eyesight prevented him from ever becoming a pilot.

So join us on Thursday, 16th November at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre for a special experience.

As usual light finger food will be served from 6:30 with the screening commencing around 7:00.

This month our snack will be accompanied by the fine fine wine of The Blok Estate.
