With fingers firmly crossed (so please forgive any typos) it appears safe to say that we will be proceeding with our screening at 7:00pm on Thursday night.

Just a few quick reminders:

* We won't be offering food or drinks;

* Social distancing rules will apply throughout the theatre complex

* Contact tracing is required, either through QR Code scanning (Preferred) or on paper. These options will both be available.

* Seating will be in a checkerboard pattern. There will be no sitting next to each other, regardless of the relationship.

If you are not feeling well, please don't come, we'll see you next year.

So, looking forward to seeing you all (from a safe distance) on Thursday.

Monday, December 7, 2020

It is hard to make a definitive statement this year without adding the caveat - "Covid permitting".

So with that in mind we are happy to announce that we are planning to screen "It's the Law" on 17th December, at 7:00pm.

Of course this being 2020 things won't be as they have been in the past. A number restrictions will apply. We will not be able to provide food or drink and the numbers attending are restricted. To help us ensure we don't exceed the permitted numbers could you please let us know the size of your party by completing the form you will find by clicking here

Seating will be separated so only every second seat can be used, regardless of the relationship of the people occupying the seats.

Everyone attending will have to check-in through the Covid contact tracing system. Preferably by scanning the QR code which will be available, or on paper if you can't scan.

We will not be scanning membership cards, but hang onto them for next year, nor will we be taking any payments.

We are looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible, please let us know if you're coming.

Just a quick note to say that the AGM will go ahead as previously advised. We will be at the BBQ area at the far end of the road into Valley Lakes. If you are planning to attend please bring your own chair.

Masks are optional but social distancing will be mandatory.

Hope to see you there.

AGM Notification and Some Updates

As this somewhat unusual year draws to a close we have a few bits of news.

Firstly, we have a legal obligation to hold an Annual General Meeting. Although there have been some allowances made, we feel we are in a position to proceed safely. Unfortunately we won't be screening a film this month (more on that front below) so we won't have use of the Theatre. Instead we will be maximising our Covid safety, and enjoying a local beauty spot by having our first outdoor AGM at the Valley Lakes on Thursday 26th November at the picnic area at the very far end. The meeting will commence at 6:00pm. All members are encouraged to attend and to nominate for the committee (and bring your own chair). It would be appreciated if nominations could be forwarded by email to reelsfilmsociety@gmail,com, and the same for any notices of motion. Any questions can also be forwarded to that email.

On the film front it has been decided we will have screen a film on our originally scheduled December date. So on Thursday 17th of December put all thoughts of Christmas shopping aside and come and enjoy a good film (further information and a reminder will be sent out closer to the day), screening time will be our usual 7:00pm. Unfortunately we won't be able to provide our traditional food and wine. Seating restrictions will also apply as will recording of attendance for purposes of contact tracing, just in case.

It has been decided that we will do what a lot of people would like to do and pretend that 2020 never happened, All 2020 memberships will be rolled over into 2021 and we will be working to ensure that we have the usual variety of quality films to enjoy.

Thank you to everybody who responded via poll or email.

While most of us want to return to our monthly screenings as soon as possible not enough are ready to return just yet. So we won't be getting back together this month.

We will continue to monitor the situation and test the water again soon.

In the meantime stay safe and keep well.

Tuesday, August 4, 2020

We are looking at the possibility of restarting screenings this month. The Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre reopened on 1st August so we may be able to resume screenings on the 20th.

To go ahead there are some conditions we have to meet:
1. We won't be able to offer pre-screening food and drinks.
2. Social distancing will apply at all times. Members will have to go straight into the auditorium.
3. Seating limits will apply. There will have to be two seats between each person, except for members of the same household. Every second row will be blocked.

We may also require masks to be worn, that will be determined later.

We are planning to show "Parasite", We will operate to the usual time-frames, entry form 6:30, screening at 7:00.

Two key factors in determining if we go ahead will be the level of interest and of course, no tightening of restrictions.

To determine whether there is sufficient interest could you please complete this survey by clicking here, please respond by Saturday 8th August.

While we are keen to get back to our screenings we don't want to put people at risk. If you are uncertain please answer "no" on the survey. We will only proceed if there are enough people who feel confident and safe to attend.

Remember, Reels Film Society is on the second Thursday this month - that's the 12th.

This month we have a British rom-com. When the long suffering Annie meets the object of her long-term partner's obsession, the relationship that develops is not what anyone expected. Chris O'Dowd, Rose Byrne and Ethan Hawke head the cast of this highly regarded musical dramedy.

As usual, doors will open at 6:30, screening at 7:00. Nibbles supplied by the RSL ladies and this weeks wines from the Leocnfield winery. Looking froward to seeing you there.

Wednesday, February 12, 2020

Not to be confused with the 2019 film of very similar name, this Bombshell is the story of a very talented woman whose talents far exceeded her beauty.

Hedy Lamar was called "the most beautiful woman in the world". She was so much more.  A brilliant scientist and inventor, she was responsible for discoveries that enabled many of our modern conveniences, and might just have helped win World War 2.

Thursday  20th of February, the doors at the Sir Robert Helpmann Robert Helpmann will open at 6:30  to enable time to enjoy some fine Di Georgio wines and nibbles, and the show will start at 7:00. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Wednesday, January 8, 2020

A divorce, a change of job and life generally spiralling downhill - things just aren't going right for Aurore, but when an old flame comes back into her life things start to change for the better.

We're starting 2020 with a French romantic comedy, what better way to start.

Our January film will be showing at 7:00pm at  the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on Thursday the 16th. As always doors open at 6:30, with drinks and nibbles.

This month we are returning to Caroline Hills for our pre-film tipple.

**REMINDER -** 2020 fees are now due, the amounts are the same as 2019 ($75 standard membership, $65 concession and $30 for three months). To avoid queuing you can pay by bank transfer. If you pay by Wednesday the 15th we will have time to update our records. The bank account details are:
Account Name - Reels Film Society
BSB - 633-000

We changed banks last year so the details form previous payments mat not be correct.

And finally , remember your membership card carries over, so bring it along.
