This November - The Wind Rises

We will be entering uncharted waters (or should I say skies) this month with our first animated feature.

From the acclaimed Studio Ghibli this is a fine example of the best of Japanese anime. Telling the story of  Jiro Horikoshi a myopic flying enthusiast who turned his hand to design when his eyesight prevented him from ever becoming a pilot.

So join us on Thursday, 16th November at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre for a special experience.

As usual light finger food will be served from 6:30 with the screening commencing around 7:00.

This month our snack will be accompanied by the fine fine wine of The Blok Estate.

French Humour to Celebrate Springs Arrival

Intrigued by a woman he is sure he has met before, Vincent Machot's predictable life becomes anything but predictable as he follows her everywhere trying to learn more.

Thursday the 19th of October, at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre we will be enjoying Vincent's travails as he becomes acquainted with Rosalie Blum.

Light refreshments and a glass of wine can be enjoyed from 6:30 with the film starting at 7:00.

This month we will be sampling the delights of Parker Estate.

Enjoy a Good Film for a Worthy Cause

Ryder Cheshire are having a fund raiser this coming Sunday afternoon at the Oat Mill Cinema. They will be Victoria & Abdul.
Tickets are $20.00 and include afternoon tea following the film, 2.00 pm for 2.15 start.

Delight in this Turkish Offering

Five orphaned girls learn that in the eyes of there conservative guardians there is no such thing as  innocent play with boys. 

Thursday 21st September sees this highly regarded Turkish film come to the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre.

As always drinks and nibbles are on offer from 6:30. Screening starts at 7:00.

Having parenthood thrust upon him was not part of Lee Chandler's life plan, but tragedy thrusts the responsibility upon him and he is left with no choice but to step up. This acclaimed drama examines how grief has reduced a man to a shell of his former self, but now he must measure up to greater responsibility.

Our wine of the month will be supplied by Grey-Smith wines. As usual drinks and nibbles from 6:30 with the screening starting at 7:00

Wild Tales on the Fourth (Thursday) of July

Six short stories exploring the extremes of human behaviour of people in distress.

An offering from Argentina this month. Escape the wild weather for six Wild Tales from the home of los Pumas.

And if an interesting set of stories isn't enough to entice you out, there will be wine! This month we get to savour the offerings of Zema Estate.

"I, Daniel Blake" Steps up on the 15th of June

Just as the best plans of mice and men can go awry so can those of your favourite Film Society.

Due to an unanticipated availability issue June's offering will be the acclaimed British drama I, Daniel Blake. As Daniel was scheduled for later in the year this means our second half screenings will be somewhat shuffled.

But rest assured we will still be enjoying some of the best films from around the world - just in a different order.

So come along at 6:30 on Thursday to enjoy some quality Koonara wines, some finger food and bright conversation before settling down at 7:00 for some great drama.
